Slovenian ski racer Tina Robnik injured herself at the end of September 2022 while training with the national team in the Swiss Alps on the Saas-Fee glacier. At high speed, she threaded a giant slalom pole and fell. The 31-year-old broke the tibial plateau in her right knee and dislocated a shoulder joint.
The same day she was brought back to Slovenia where she was treated at the University Hospital of Ljubljana. "Fortunately, surgery is not necessary. After three to four months I hope to be back in the snow," the skier wrote on Instagram. Her right leg was completely plastered, with only her toes sticking out. She was not allowed to put weight on the leg and had grey crutches to walk on. |

After about three weeks, the cast on her leg was changed to an open plaster splint held in place with Velcro straps. The splint immobilised only the knee joint, her foot and ankle were free to move. After almost six weeks, she was able to put weight on her leg and walk without crutches. It is possible that she will be able to take part in ski races again in January 2023. |

Tina Robnik competed for Slovenia at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics. In the last World Cup season in 2021/22, she had three top 10 rankings in parallel and giant slalom. She has also had two longer injury breaks: At the end of the 2018 season, she tore the cruciate ligament in her left knee and in 2011 she fractured three vertebrae. |
