Even before the competition starts Europes champion in javelin, Tanja Damaske from Germany, was injured at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. During training she tore the Achilles tendon in the left foot. Instead of a medal, the 28 year old woman flew back to Berlin with short leg cast. There she was operated.
Already 13 months before, this tendon tore at the world championships in Sevilla, Spain. Then Tanja stumbled over a cable during the warm up for the competition.
