Croatian national football team player Ana Maria Markovic, who has lived in Switzerland since the age of twelve and has played for Grasshoppers Club Zurich since 2020, seriously injured her left knee on March 3, 2023. Ten minutes after the half-time break in the top match of the Swiss championship against local rivals and reigning champions FC Zurich, the 23-year-old fell, twisted her knee and burst into tears. On 10 March, she was surgically operated on. A few days later, she was able to leave the hospital on crutches and with a thick splint on her leg. The following weekend, she watched her team match in the stadium with a narrower knee brace and crutches. Ana Maria Markovic calls her blue crutches, on which she is dependent, "new best friends". With her "companions" she also allowed herself time off from physiotherapy at Lake Como, in Hamburg and at the Champions League match in Milan. |
